With September just around the corner, the start of another hockey season is quickly approaching! We wanted to share a few updates on how things are coming together and what you can expect from Clavet Minor Hockey over the next month as we get ready to hit the ice. 

Registrations are in, and we are excited to see our association continue to grow. This season, we are expecting 20 teams—the most we have ever had, with record participation across the association. We are incredibly fortunate to see this continued growth year after year and look forward to another successful season. 
 

Tune-up skates 

Pre-season tune-up/conditioning skates are open to players from U9-U18 who intend to evaluate for co-ed teams. These skates are a good opportunity to get back on the blades before evaluations and are beneficial, but players are not required to attend. Greg Slobodzian will be running the skates again this year. A few notes: 

• Tune-up sessions are organized by age group and last name. If you are unable to attend at your assigned time, please arrange a switch with a player whose last name falls on the opposite side of the alphabet within the same age group. 

• If you are on one of our female teams you should not be attending the tune-up skates. 

• We have added one U11-U18 goalie specific session this year. Goalies are welcome to attend this specific tune-up as well as the applicable age group session. 

• We have also added 2 checking clinics for U15. If attending, your player should attend the one corresponding with your last name.  

The full tune-up schedule is attached and will be available on the Arena website. Please note that this schedule is dependent on the ice being ready. If changes are required, they will be communicated as soon as possible.  

Evaluations

Evaluations will take place September 26-28 for co-ed U9-U18. More information and the schedule will be provided in the upcoming weeks. If your player is unable to attend evaluations, please email info@clavetminorhockey.ca. Unfortunately, alternative evaluation times are not available.  

If your player is in a division that isn’t evaluating, we’ll be sending out more details in the coming weeks.  

New Coaching Application – Deadline September 20 

We are launching a new coaching application this year the deadline to submit the application is September 20, 2026. This form is for all interested Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches. If your child is trying out for AA please still apply to coach. You may withdraw your name if your child does not play in Clavet. 

U15 Body Checking Changes 

As you may have seen, Saskatoon Minor Hockey Association has added body checking into the U15 B division. If you indicated at registration that your player was not interested in participating in a body checking scrimmage, we will be in contact with you to determine if this is still your players intention. More details on this decision is available on the SMHA website.  

Apparel Coordinator 

We are looking for a volunteer to take on the role of Apparel Coordinator. This position works closely with the Executive to provide members with a variety of clothing and apparel options featuring the Clavet Cougars logo.
